Larry’s Drive Thru and Mini Mart located at 3305 Center Road in Poland, has hit the convenience-and-value sweet spot for many of their customers. Located just 1.5 miles east from the center of Poland and less than 2 miles from the Pennsylvania Line “we have created a one-stop-for-most, store.” said Larry. Larry, his wife Diane and 4 children have been Poland residents for over 25 years.
Besides a large inventory of domestic beers, Larry’s has over 300 craft beers to choose from and a selection of over 1500 varieties of wine. They carry all of the wine favorites found in your “traditional retailers” but also offer wines only found in wine boutiques and restaurants. Larry’s takes the customer visit one step further, offering an ultimate shopping experience. Customers are able to drink their favorite wine, craft beer, or margaritas while touring our store or waiting for a food order.
Larry’s also has many things typically found in full-size grocery stores, such as a deli selling exclusively Boars Head meat and cheese products, dairy and eggs, as well as prepared, packaged and frozen foods. Most shoppers associate smaller mini mart operations with much higher prices than the larger traditional retailers. From the second you walk in the front door you notice that they are anything but traditional, Larry’s offers not just big store pricing, but speed, convenience and value.
At Larry’s, shoppers also can find typical convenience-store foods such as slushies, hot dogs, pepperoni rolls, Broaster chicken and wings, subs, soups, and gyros. Larry’s has daily specials in addition to their already extensive menu. Wing, meat and cheese, fruit, sub and many more party trays can be made to order. You can find the entire menu at Larrysdrivethru.com
Larry’s has also partnered with Masters dry cleaning services to offer the areas’ only drive thru drop off service. Imagine never having to get out of your car to drop off or pick up your dry cleaning plus purchase all of your other needs at the same time! Larry’s takes it one step further, and offers all their services online. You can order your dinner and groceries online and conveniently pick them up from the safety of the double drive thru or their store. Online services are provided by ServeRight Software.
In the very near future a home delivery service to the local area will be in place. Future plans are to open up 4 more family owned locations and franchise out an additional 95 stores that will be logistically located so they can be serviced with ease by the Ornelas’ wholesale and Distribution Company that already services independent grocers. Plans for the future also include gas pumps and an expanded kitchen along with an enclosed dining area.
“This store crosses several segments. Since 1998 our wholesale company has serviced smaller independents and we have seen them struggle against the larger retailers. For years we have heard from the independents that as wholesalers we do not know what they go thru to compete, now we do”, comments Larry. He goes on to say, “We wanted to put our money where our mouth is and create not just the ultimate shopping experience, but also have a live showroom for store managers and owners to see how to compete and thrive in this business. We took something from each of them and were able to add it into our own footprint so that we could talk intelligently during our scheduled one on one meeting. In this way, we can teach them how to market their products and also themselves. One of the key things we stress is that you don’t need to make high % on what you sell, but rather make a much smaller margin and turn the inventory. Yes, it’s nice to make a large profit, but did it take you 2 months to sell it and wouldn’t it be better to sell 20 items at a lesser margin each day and also retain that consumer?…. it gets their attention.”
“It’s the best of all worlds when it comes to a retail model that sells groceries, deli, and hot meals, along with the snacks, beverages, and the everyday necessities people count on at traditional convenience stores, but as I said, come and see why we are not so traditional” larry
